Z CAR M is the independent music project of German musician, composer and producer Berny A. Racz. His musical journey began in 1974 and has developed across more than four decades of songwriting, performing, recording and independent music production.
Berny A. Racz's musical foundations began with two years of classical piano training, followed by his involvement in several bands and musical projects. During the late 1970s, he helped establish the rock group Bourbon, performing live and developing his musical identity.
In 1980, he founded Z CAR M as a three-piece punk rock band in Germany. Emerging from the underground punk and New Wave environment of the early 1980s, the group performed live and developed its own distinctive musical direction.
During this period, Berny also became involved with other bands, including the English-singing rock group Stush and the German-singing group Uhrwerk.
Following the early live-band years, Berny continued composing and recording new material. Between 1985 and 1999, his work evolved through home recording, computer-based production and professional studio sessions.
In 1999, he founded the pop-rock project Misty Rain in San Carlos City, Philippines, together with Robert C. Drilon. The project produced its first CD demo album in the Philippines, before Berny continued composing new material in Berlin.
After relocating to Ireland, he remained active in music and performed live, including a 2003 appearance at the Estuary Pub in Swords. In 2004, Z CAR M became active again, with guest vocalist Claudia Sahin contributing to the renewed project.
That same year, the song Charisma Of Love appeared on the compilation CD Playtime, released internationally through Matchbox Recordings and distributed through CD Baby and Tower Records.
During 2005 and 2006, Z CAR M expanded its international online presence through music promotion, web radio exposure and new collaborations. The track Another Day also received its own video clip, produced at Malahide Beach in County Dublin, Ireland.
In 2008, Berny continued developing the project with additional musicians, exploring the possibilities of live performance and further recordings. He also signed a digital distribution agreement with TuneCore, making the five-track album Fortune available through online music platforms.
In 2009, Berny developed the internet radio project Pearl Of Music together with Dea and Ingo, continuing his involvement in independent music beyond recording and performance.
Z CAR M subsequently expanded its catalogue through digital and physical releases. In 2011, Z CAR M was registered as a business name in Ireland.
In February 2017, Berny established his own independent record label, Z CAR M Records, with the aim of supporting talented Philippine artists and bands.
The same year saw the release of several Z CAR M albums on physical CD through Kunaki, including Studio Live Recordings Feb. 02, 1983, Revolution Time, The Other One, Asia Rain and Brown Sugar.
In May 2019, four albums, each containing 15 tracks, were released on Spotify. The growing catalogue also became available through Amazon Music, Deezer and other international digital music platforms.
In November 2021, Z CAR M began a musical collaboration with Philippine musician Paul Vincent Camoro, professionally known as Pavel Camoro, from Cebu. Camoro is a bassist and vocalist and is associated with the Cebu hard rock band Abyss. Their collaboration brought together different musical backgrounds and creative influences.
Since 2025, Z CAR M has also been working with The Steven Timothy Patrick Band, originally from Georgia, USA. This partnership continues the project's tradition of international musical exchange and independent creative collaboration.
Over the years, Z CAR M has developed beyond its original punk rock and New Wave foundations, embracing influences from Alternative Rock, Post-Punk, Indie Rock and electronic music.
With 12 albums and numerous individual tracks released, the project has built an extensive catalogue of independent music available across major international streaming and digital music platforms.
Today, Berny A. Racz continues to write, compose, arrange, record and produce new music. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to independent creativity, musical experimentation and the freedom to explore different sounds and styles.
From its beginnings in the German underground scene in 1980 to its international collaborations and worldwide digital releases, Z CAR M remains an independent musical project driven by authenticity, creative freedom and an enduring passion for music.
